形态与组分 核酸为DNA，分子量85000000～110000000，两端有重复顺序。
生物学特性 亚科内全部病毒都在淋巴细胞内复制，某些毒株也可在上皮样和成纤维细胞中复制，引起细胞尤其是B或T淋巴细胞溶解。自然宿主和实验宿主范围狭窄，实验宿主往往只限于自然宿主同一目的动物。
分类 疱疹病毒科(Herpesviridae)中的一个亚科。其中典型病毒Human(Gamma)herpesvirus 4。其它病毒有Cebid herpesvirus 2，Cebid herpesvirus 3，Gallid herpesvirus 1，Gallid herpesvirus 2，Leporid herpesvirus 1。
